Help needed!!

Okay I'm calling on everybody who may stumble upon our blog to help me out! I have family visiting soon and I am looking some fun adventures for them. They are here for a week or so and I'm looking for the best free or cheap things Melbourne has to do and see, doesn't need to be in the city necessarily: think far and wide!

Hit me with suggestions please!! Your help would be greatly appreciated :)

  1. The Dandenongs, walks are beautiful.
Great Ocean Road, who doesn't love it?
A walking tour of op shops, bakeries, or of course, Botanic Gardens, Fitzroy Gardens (Captain Cook's cottage is very cheap admission too).
There are usually some free exhibitions on at NGV, Fed Square, the State Library.. and you can always visit cafes or bars and just get a coffee and make it last a long time while you soak up the atmosphere!
Then, of course, there's the City Circle tram, which I actually really enjoy.
There are free tours of things like the Town Hall.
Block Arcade off Collins St is nice to browse around, too. And you might find something here: http://www.thatsmelbourne.com.au/Whatson/WinterintheCity/Pages/Introduction.aspx

  2. If your are going to the dandenongs, the william ricketts sanctaury is an amazing place to visit.
$7 entery fee, so not too expensive...

Hmmmm... I can paste a link for some reason, just google "william ricketts sanctuary"

  3. I recently went to the Werribee Open Range Zoo and I highly recommend it! The admission fee is $22 ($18.50) for concession but the price includes a safari bus tour where you can get up close to the animals. Definitely not the usual zoo experience. I've kind of describe how to get there by train here:

  5. this may be a bit late, but when my family came to visit we all had a great day at Hanging Rock. Even getting lost on the way there was fun and all members of the party accounted for at the end of the day!
